Marazion Beach

Marazion – a proper seaside beach

Safe, sandy and absolutely gorgeous with its panoramic view of Mount’s bay dominated by the impressive Island castle of St Michael’s Mount. The sea is clean, shallow and safe with no nasty currents to catch you out, and in the summer - especially as the tide comes back in the water can be quite warm.

Marazion main beach is simply a great place to spend a day building sandcastles or relaxing in the summer sunshine. The beach provides an amazing playground…. Go rock pooling or crabbing, paddling, swimming, snorkelling, body boarding, or play ball on the sands. If that’s not enough there’s a superb children’s play park just behind the beach, plus benches for Nan and Grandad to sit and watch the world go by and the grassy Folly Field to fly a kite or have a picnic. There are ice cream shops and cafes in the car park and in the town, where you can also buy buckets and spades and a post card to send home.

If you’re feeling adventurous and want to get out on the water see our ‘Outdoor Activities’ page for information about SUP, Kite Surfing, Sailing and Canoeing.

Although Marazion beach is patrolled by RNLI lifeguards in the summer months, always supervise children and take extra care in any brisk offshore wind, when it’s best not to play with inflatable toys in case they are blown out to sea.

If cold water swimming is your thing, it’s a good idea to go for a dip in company of others - so check out the aptly named Penzance & Marazion Bluetits chill water swimming group, who meet regularly all year round on Marazion beach or in Penzance according to the tide and sea state.

Marazion Beach

Bathing is safe here, the sands slope gently away into Mount’s Bay and there are no nasty currents to worry about. When the tides are low, you can walk across the causeway to visit the Mount and enjoy rock pooling.

In the summer season from July 1st until August 31st there is a dog restriction from 10.00am to 7.00pm in place on the main beach in Marazion to the west of the causeway. At all other months of the year dogs are welcome - but please do pick up any dog mess and put it in a bin.

Toilets are open all year round and can be found behind the Folly Field children’s play park and in the Town Centre behind the Out of the Blue Gallery.

Now, for our best-kept secret. We don’t just have one beach. A second all year round dog friendly beach is home to lots of rock pools, where children can see some of the aquatic creatures that live in the bay. You can access this beach from the steps on Leys Lane. But please don’t tell anyone about it…
